Synchronize adapts to each organization's computing environment. Synchronize protects existing investment in hardware and software by providing support for a range of client and server platforms, import/export capabilities and industry standard network support.
The strict adherence to standards results in a typical porting time of 30 minutes to 4 hours per server platform, which allows CrossWind to support a wide variety of platforms and offer simultaneous upgrades to all supported platforms. Synchronize runs on most UNIX servers. Currently, three clients are supported: a UNIX-based Motif/X.11 client, a Microsoft Windows client and a UNIX-based ASCII client. Also, users may disconnect their PC from the network and run Synchronize as a stand-alone application. When the user later reconnects to the network Synchronize automatically merges the information between the user's PC and the common database.
Synchronize has the ability to export data from and import data into its database using a tab delimited ASCII file format. The Import/Export File Format is available for communication/integration with other scheduling tools as well as your corporate database management system.
The Synchronize networking code uses TCP/IP and Berkeley sockets for all communication between client and server. By adhering to the Berkeley socket interface, the networking code is portable across all major server platforms. This approach makes communication across WANs and LANs straightforward and efficient. Care has been taken to support slow transports (e.g. SLIP across 9600 baud), with the end result that even the Internet can be used to access a Synchronize server.
